We have finished reading Any Small Goodness. As a culminating project students worked in groups to create a PicCollage image showing an important hero or event from the story. They then wrote and recorded a script explaining what occurred in the scene and why it is important to the story. The students then put it all together in iMovie. From now until winter break students will be reading a short novel focusing on a true story from Japan. Students chose to read either Hachiko Waits or Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. There will be three parts to this unit. First students will meet in discussion groups twice a week. The will have an assigned reading and then write a summary and a discussion question. Students need to be prepared in order to participate in the discussion group so it is important that they keep up with the reading and the assignment. Second students will have a project assignment. They will complete four projects to get points. They need 65 points to get an A on the project. Here is the project guidelines. (Novel Project) All work will be kept in a project folder that they will turn in weekly. Finally, there will be weekly assessments on the novels. We will discuss in class how to manage all the elements of the work for this unit.
