We will begin Wordly Wise this week. Students will have homework each night to complete each section. Some sections are shorter then others and may be completed in class. Wordly Wise Test for chapter 1 will be Monday 9/19. There will be no Wordly Wise homework that day.
We will be reading short stories with the theme of building character in class this week. Students will be using graphic organizers and comparing and contrasting paired stories. There may be homework if students are not able to complete the work in the allotted time. Hopefully you had a wonderful summer and are ready to head back to school. I can’t wait to meet each of you and learn more about who you are and what we can do to make 4th grade a success for you. I’m looking forward to hearing about your summer adventures. I really enjoyed the summer reading challenge and can’t wait to hear about all the great books you've read this summer. This week we will spend time learning about class routines and building a strong learning culture. There will be a variety of lessons including group activities that focus on working and supporting each other, lessons that help you learn how you learn and lessons that focus on helping you build independent learning skills. This should be fun and help us get the school year off to a good start. A few reminders for the start of the year: · Bring a water bottle. It could be a very hot day. · Dress for the weather. · Dismissal is at 3:30 p.m. at the Belle Plaine Entrance. I enjoyed reading Flora and Ulysses, and I have planned some fun games related to the book. We will do this on Friday afternoon, so you may want to take a little time this first week to review the story. I had to read it again to prepare all the activities. Homework this week will be light as we ease back into the school routine. For reading work you should be reading 20 minutes each night. We will be using picture books this week in class so the nightly assignments will be your choice. However, you may want to read over Flora and Ulysses so it is fresh in your mind. Attached below is the class letter and a questionnaire (which hopefully made it home today). If they didn't make it you can print them out. |
