I was just notified by DePaul that we will be receiving free busses for the field trip to Luchadora. Since you have already paid for the busses for this field trip this will be credited to a future field trip. We are very grateful to DePaul both for the reduction in the ticket price and the free busses.

Room 301 is in need of a room parent. We need one or two parents to volunteer to support the room. In 4th grade past room parents have:
Friday's quiz and the weekly work packet were returned today. Overall, students did well on Friday's Math quiz. I just wanted to remind you of the test correction policy in 4th grade. Students can make corrections for half the missed points. This is helpful with quizzes as the same material will be on the unit test, so this is a great review.
I use the same policy for test corrections that Ms. Brandstrader uses. Students can make corrections and they will make up half of the points they have missed on the test. To do this they need to use lined notebook paper with a correct heading (name, subject and date in the right hand corner). For each question they missed they need to provide:
The past two weeks we've been working on Unit One in the Envision program. Unit One focuses on place value. There will be a math test this Thursday on Unit One.
These past weeks we worked on understanding place value and using place value charts to write numbers in standard form (35,821), expanded form (30,000 + 5,000 + 800 + 21 + 1) and written form (thirty five thousand, eight hundred and twenty one). We worked on understanding the relationship between the places (In the number 5,424 the 4 in the hundreds place is 100 times larger than the 4 in the ones place.) We worked on comparing large numbers (345,678 > 335,678, because the 4 in the ten thousands place is greater than the 3 in the ten thousands place of the second number) Finally, we worked on rounding. For example, 345,678 rounds to 350,000 when rounded to the ten thousands place. Wednesday students will make a study note card in class. We will talk about how to study for a math test. You can use the above list of skills to help your child review for the test. There are many things your child can do to study for this test:
Students have been working on a "Math About Me" assignment this week. They will have had almost 3 hours of class time, so most students will have this assignment completed by Friday. It is due Monday. Here is the assignment if you want to check in with your child. Every student successful made a book in class, so it is just writing the problems and putting them in the book.
