These past weeks we worked on understanding place value and using place value charts to write numbers in standard form (35,821), expanded form (30,000 + 5,000 + 800 + 21 + 1) and written form (thirty five thousand, eight hundred and twenty one). We worked on understanding the relationship between the places (In the number 5,424 the 4 in the hundreds place is 100 times larger than the 4 in the ones place.) We worked on comparing large numbers (345,678 > 335,678, because the 4 in the ten thousands place is greater than the 3 in the ten thousands place of the second number) Finally, we worked on rounding. For example, 345,678 rounds to 350,000 when rounded to the ten thousands place.
Tomorrow students will make a study note card in class. We will talk about how to study for a math test. You can use the above list of skills to help your child review for the test. There are many things your child can do to study for this test:
- Khan Academy - I have assigned the place value tutorials to students.
- Review past last Friday's quiz and make corrections.
- This units problem packet has problems pulled from the test (with different numbers, but same wording)
- Come in at 8AM if you want extra help before the test.
